Opera aficionados, fashion lovers, designers and performers celebrate at the 5^th Annual

DIVAS Shop for the Opera event, benefiting the New York City Opera.

 

One of the most highly anticipated shopping evenings of the spring season, DIVAS Shop for Opera offers exclusive designer and collectible clothing, accessories and home furnishings.  The City Opera Thrift Shop is providing its renowned vintage collection from top donors who contribute each year from their closets. 

 

Shoppers can find Balenciaga, Chanel, Burberry, Doyle New York, Versace, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, and more. Additionally, spring 2010 merchandise will be available from designers including Anna Sui, Miguelina, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor and Tory Burch. 

 

As a special feature this year, 25 designers have created sketches inspired by a classic opera character including, Salome by Stephen Burrows, Aida by Zandra Rhodes and The Queen of the Night by threeASFOUR.  Other participating designers include Jason Wu, Victoria Bartlett, Carolina Herrera, and Narciso Rodriguez.

All proceeds for the evening will support the design and creation of costumes or new productions at New York City Opera.

Event co-hosts are Vogue Editor, Hamish Bowles; Sex & the City stylist, Patricia Field; 1^st Dibs founder Michael Bruno; novelist and tv journalist Elsa Klensch; fashion couple: Ruben and Isabel Toledo and opera lover Lorry Newhouse.  Young Patrons co-chairs include jewelry designer Pamela Love; fashion designer Rebecca Taylor; filmmaker and style-setter Arden Wohl and opera fan, Ashley Melone. New York City Opera General Manager and Artistic Director George Steel, along with committee members and fashion lovers HRH Alexandra of Greece, Simon Doonan, Tiffany Dubin, Tory Burch, Beth Rudin DeWoody, and many more.
