New York City Opera Receives Emmy® Award for Live From Lincoln Center Telecast of Madama Butterfly
At the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California., New York City Opera was announced as winner of a Creative Arts category of Outstanding Special Class-Classical Music and Dance Programs for the Live From Lincoln Center telecast of Puccini's Madama Butterfly from the New York State Theater.
New York City Opera's Production directed by Mark Lamos starred Shu-Ying Li as Cio-Cio San, James Valenti as B.F. Pinkerton, Jennifer Tiller as Suzuki and Michael Chioldi as Sharpless. New York City Opera Music Director George Manahan conducted the performance which aired live on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 8:00pm on PBS. Sets were by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Constance Hoffman and stage lighting by Robert Wierzel.
Live From Lincoln Center is currently in its 33rd broadcast season. The series has received 13 Emmy Awards and is produced by John Goberman. The series has brought the world's greatest artists on Lincoln Center's renowned stages to home viewers in virtually every corner of the United States. It continues to be the only series of live telecast perfromances on American television today.
