![]() 2008-2009 Season InformationWhile the New York State Theater is being renovated over the next season, New York City Opera will bring music and discussion about opera to other major venues throughout the city during 2008-09. Plans include:
A Centennial Celebration of Samuel Barber which culminates in full evening concert presentations of his opera Antony and Cleopatra, starring Lauren Flanigan and Teddy Tahu Rhodes in the title roles.
"Looking Forward" - a series of 90-minute concerts, hosted by music director George Manahan, with New York City Opera's orchestra and singers in a program of 20th-century compositions. This will be an entertaining preview of the harmonic language heard in the operas that are part of Gerard Mortier's inaugural season in 2009-10.
"Opera Matters" - a series of discussions and other special events, curated by dramaturg Cori Ellison, that highlight opera's relationship to the worlds of film, literature, media and visual arts.
The 10th anniversary of our acclaimed VOX Festival, a showcase of new operas performed by the New York City Opera orchestra and singers.
